UAE Riding School & Livery Stables Guide

Horses have been part of life in the UAE for centuries, and that heritage still shapes the modern equestrian scene: from the Al Nahyan and Al Maktoum families' longstanding patronage of racing and polo, to government-backed clubs preserving classical horsemanship, to the wide range of stables now open to everyday riders across all seven emirates.

British Horse Society schools, French FFE-affiliated academies, polo clubs, and small independent yards all operate within easy reach of one another, so the right fit depends on what you're after, whether that's competitive training, a first pony lesson, livery for a horse you already own, or a hack along the beach or desert (but please choose a reputable stable for those rides).

This guide brings together the riding schools and livery stables from your list, organised by Emirate and alphabetised within each for easy comparison. Every entry includes a short description, its location, and the most current contact details available.

As always, it's worth confirming hours, availability, and pricing directly with each stable before visiting.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a riding school and a livery stable in the UAE?

A riding school offers lessons using its own horses, so you don't need to own a horse to ride. A livery stable, on the other hand, boards and cares for horses that riders already own, often alongside lesson programs. Many UAE clubs, like Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club and Desert Palm Equestrian Centre, offer both.

Which UAE riding schools are British Horse Society (BHS) accredited?

Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club, Al Forsan International Sports Resort, Emirates Equestrian Centre, Sharjah Equestrian & Racing Club, and The Royal Stables are all BHS-approved centers, meaning their coaching follows internationally recognized training standards.

What's the best riding school in Dubai for beginners?

Desert Palm Equestrian Centre and Emirates Equestrian Centre are both known for structured beginner programs with BHS-trained instructors. Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club and Al Habtoor Riding School also run beginner-friendly lessons within larger polo resort settings. In Abu Dhabi, The Royal Stables and ADEC are best known for giving beginner lessons.

Are there ladies-only riding clubs in the UAE?

Yes. The Royal Stables in Abu Dhabi is exclusively for women and children, and Al Asayl Equestrian Club in Sweihan is also a ladies-only club offering lessons, desert hacks, and livery.

What age can children start horse riding lessons in the UAE?

Most clubs accept children from around age 3 to 5 for supervised pony rides, and structured lessons typically begin around age 5. Many clubs in the UAE provide pony lessons for children.

How much do horse riding lessons cost in the UAE?

Pricing varies by club and lesson type, but shared/group lessons commonly range from roughly AED 150–250 per session, with private lessons costing upwards of AED 500. It's best to confirm current rates directly with each stable, since prices change and often depend on group size and horse level.

Is Abu Dhabi or Dubai better for horse riding in the UAE?

Both emirates have strong options. Abu Dhabi is home to major institutions like Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club and the newly opened Abu Dhabi Royal Equestrian Arts, while Dubai has a denser cluster of polo-resort riding schools, including Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club and Al Habtoor Riding School.

Do I need to be a member to ride at these clubs?

Yes, but it depends. Most of the stables in this guide are open to non-members for lessons, desert hacks, or pony rides, though some larger polo clubs may offer membership tiers with added perks like discounted lessons or facility access. Always check directly, since policies vary by stable.

How do I book a lesson or livery spot at one of these stables?

Contact details for phone, email, and website are listed for each stable in this guide. Most clubs recommend booking lessons or livery spots in advance, particularly during the cooler October–April riding season when demand is highest.
